Actors’ profile pictures
Actors’ profile pictures serve a slightly different purpose to editorial or traditional portraits. To be effective they need to combine two competing requirements; catch the casting director’s eye and accurately resemble the person the casting team are expecting to meet.
Unsurprisingly, some people can be a little uncertain about balancing these requirements, but there’s really no need to be. The process is as enlightening as it is enjoyable, with the photography and editing completed in a single collaborative session.
Editing process
Following the photography, the first step is to identify the best two images for each different pose and clothing style. This process is usually quite quick and filters approximately 200 images down to about 30. The second step is to identify and filter out the weaker images from the first edit, which typically reduces the selection to a manageable15-image shortlist.
The shortlisted images will then have colour and contrast corrections assigned, which in many cases results in the pictures being ready for use. Some clients prefer to reduce the final selection further and this is fine too. Photoshop work is only available for the removal of temporary and minor spots and blemishes. More complex adjustments are available, but these will incur additional charges based on time. However, over-editing images used for casting applications defeat the point of a profile picture and is really not recommended.
The final selected images are then uploaded to a secure private gallery with options to choose your preferred download size.
Price: £300
A three hour combined photography and editing session costs £300, with the time split equally between the two elements. Should you wish to leave earlier and not be involved in the primary editing, this will be done for you but the price will remain the same.
