Whilst working on the Being Untouchable project, we were invited to a slum area populated by Dalits. Situated near Nasik’s burgeoning industrial estates, the slum rose from the sides of a city waterway bisecting the area.
During our visit we spotted a girl on the far side waving wildly to catch our attention. When we finally managed to get across, there was no emergency, she simply wanted to have her photo taken.
Here she is responding to friends who were laughing at the situation. Her hands are still coloured from the Holi festival activities which took place the day before.
