Desert kitchen

Above: Red Crescent staff work throughout the night to prepare food parcels for refugees fleeing Iraq during the 2nd Gulf war. The kitchen, funded by World Vision, operated under extreme desert conditions in the bleak Ar Ruwayashid camp on the Iraqi Jordanian border.

Below: World Vision staff sent to oversea the kitchen operation were often out in the storms shoring up refugees' tents - checking guide ropes and shovelling sand and stones onto tent skirts to stop wind getting underneath the base sheet. But sand would always get in everywhere, and when the wind did get under the tent everything would be thrown around.

Below: During one of the many storms a migrant worker, who fled Bagdad, battles through the high winds to collect a food parcel.
